2020 Season - 25 Years of IMCA and Mr. September does it again!
2020 marked the 25th anniversary of the Hythe Motor Speedway and also marked 25 years of sanctioning with IMCA Canada. Everyone at the Hythe Motor Speedway was very proud to be recognized for this achievement and we value the partnership that we have with IMCA Canada President Bruce Hampton and all of the officials with IMCA.
This season was shortened due to Covid but it was packed with action in the IMCA Modified division. The quality of drivers at the Hythe Motor Speedway means that almost anyone in the field could be on the podium each and every race day. The first weekend of racing saw some tough luck for both the #22 of Boyd Gibb and #42 Austin Webster. But we also saw the Clark brothers, Jamie Krzysik, and Michael Reeve battle it out all season long. At the end of all of the racing, Mike Clark would claim his 4th track championship with older brother #90 BJ Clark finishing second. #46 Jamie Krzysik would miss out on the second spot by one point and #77 Michael Reeve would round out the top four.
The crown jewel of the Hythe Motor Speedway for the past 12 years, the 2020 Defiant Group IMCA Super Nationals did not disappoint. 13 Modifieds would run wheel to wheel all weekend with most of the field being separated by only tenths of a second. We had a few new drivers come and run on the high banks but in the end Mr. September lived up to his nickname. #92 Mike Clark would claim his seventh IMCA Super Nationals title and capped off a dominant season where he won the Roy Ross Memorial at Edmonton International Raceway, The IMCA Super Nationals, and was crowned the Hythe Motor Speedway Track Champion.
2021 will bring more excitement in this class. We are excited to have Keaton Pylypiuk back in the class after a devastating fire in his families race shop wiped out their 2020 season. There are also some new modifieds being built and rumours of more cars planning to run here full time. One thing we do know is that this class provides amazing racing every weekend and it is always amplified at the IMCA Super Nationals.
