The year 2020 marked not only the 25th anniversary of the Hythe Motor Speedway but also celebrated 25 years of sanctioning with IMCA Canada. Everyone at the Hythe Motor Speedway took great pride in this achievement, and we cherish our partnership with IMCA Canada President Bruce Hampton and all the officials involved with IMCA.

The 2020 season results reflected a shortened schedule due to Covid, yet it was filled with thrilling action in the IMCA Modifieds division. The caliber of drivers at the Hythe Motor Speedway means that nearly anyone in the field had the potential to reach the podium each race day. The first weekend of racing saw tough breaks for both the #22 of Boyd Gibb and #42 Austin Webster, while the Clark brothers, Jamie Krzysik, and Michael Reeve fiercely competed throughout the season. Ultimately, Mike Clark secured his fourth track championship, with older brother #90 BJ Clark finishing in second place. #46 Jamie Krzysik narrowly missed the second spot by just one point, and #77 Michael Reeve rounded out the top four.

The highlight of the Hythe Motor Speedway for the last 12 years, the 2020 Defiant Group IMCA Super Nationals, did not disappoint. Thirteen Modifieds raced wheel to wheel all weekend, with most competitors separated by mere tenths of a second. We welcomed a few new drivers to the high banks, but in the end, Mr. September lived up to his nickname. #92 Mike Clark claimed his seventh IMCA Super Nationals title, capping off a dominant season where he also won the Roy Ross Memorial at Edmonton International Raceway, the IMCA Super Nationals, and earned the title of Hythe Motor Speedway Track Champion.

Looking ahead to 2021, we anticipate even more excitement in the IMCA Modifieds class. We are thrilled to have Keaton Pylypiuk returning after a devastating fire at his family’s race shop wiped out their 2020 season. Additionally, new Modifieds are being built, and there are rumors of more cars planning to compete full time here. One thing is certain: this class delivers incredible racing every weekend, especially highlighted during the IMCA Super Nationals.
